Leonard Barnes

Leonard Barnes, Vice President of Sales and Business Development, Heritage
Vision Plans, has over 31 years of experience in sales and marketing. Mr. Barnes
draws on his broad spectrum of personal and professional experiences to position
Heritage as a premier vision benefit administration company.
Leonard has grown up in the vision care industry dating back to 1975 when his father,
George P. Barnes, Jr., founded Heritage Optical Center, Inc., which currently operates
three retail stores in the city of Detroit, and has 25 employees. In 1991 Heritage also
began administering vision benefit programs and experienced significant growth which
prompted the creation of a complete vision benefit administration company, Heritage
Vision Plans, Inc. HVP currently manages over 300,000 subscribers throughout the
United States and has 19 employees.
Leonard started his career at Heritage Optical as a lab technician trained by his father,
where he was responsible for cutting and edging of all prescription and non-prescription
lenses, assembly and repair of eyewear, and management of lab inventory.
After moving to Los Angeles, California Leonard worked for Dentsply Implant Division
first, in technical sales, case planning and consulting with oral surgeons and
periodontists for dental implant surgery, then awarded a promotion to Territory
Manager for the state of New Jersey where he was responsible for dental implant
sales, education and product placement.
In 1993, Mr. Barnes returned home to the family business and became a retail manager
where he divided his duties between three Heritage Optical locations. During his time
as a store manager, he sharpened his relationship building and marketing skills which
prepared him for a promotion in 2004, to Director of Business Development for Heritage
Vision Plans. In this position, Leonard’s primary responsibility was securing new
contracts, maintaining client relationships, and increasing market share.
Leonard was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Business Development for
Heritage Vision Plans and Heritage Vision Services,TPA in January of 2015 where he
takes more of a decision making role in the direction and overall market strategy of the
two complanies.
