Taryn Sulkes is a Native American woman business owner. Born into the construction industry, Taryn fondly remembers going on trips to the ‘big city’ where her father used to pick up materials for his window and door business in Pinckney, Michigan. Now a business owner in her own right, Taryn is proud to call that ‘big city’ of Detroit home to the company she has put her heart and soul into since 2014.
Voted NAWIC Detroit’s New Constructor in 2016, Eagle Specialties is honored to have provided construction specialties for such projects as the Marathon Administration Building via Walbridge and the out buildings of Little Caesars Arena via Christman Constructors. In 2018, Taryn received the President’s Choice Award from the National Association of Women in Construction Detroit Chapter as well as the Distinguished Business Leader award from the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council.
Taryn serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council and the National Association of Women in Construction Detroit Chapter; she volunteers with the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council as well as The Build Initiative’s Project: Accelerate! Having recently completed the Tuck Business School Executive Education Program focused on building a high-performing minority business, Taryn believes in what former first lady Michelle Obama has said “When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.” It is through this belief that Taryn often lends advice and a helping hand to other small business owners.
