Travis Spencer is the Senior Purchasing Manager for Supplier Diversity & Inclusion at Ford Motor Company. In this role, Travis is responsible for driving diversity and inclusion among Ford’s strategic partners and supply chain. He accomplishes this by connecting minority, women, veteran, disabled, LGBTQ and small business enterprises to Ford and its Tier 1 suppliers. Travis believes that economic empowerment for diverse suppliers and their corresponding communities is the epitome for what it means to drive human progress… Thus ultimately delivering Ford’s vision of Creating a Better Tomorrow.
Travis brings a strong professional business acumen in Corporate Purchasing & Strategy, Supply Chain Management, Program Management, and Negotiation along with an academic focus in Accounting, Finance, and Business Ethics. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, a private Jesuit institution known for its emphasis on service and servant leadership. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Business Administration, but most importantly, he learned about the importance of corporate social responsibility and the impact of economic empowerment through practical means mandated by the institution’s curriculum.
Travis is a two-time recipient of Ford Motor Company’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Summit Award, recognized for Strengthening External Partnerships and Leveraging a Diverse Workforce. Complimentary to his memberships with several honor societies, mentorship and community service initiatives, Travis is an active member of Ford African-Ancestry Network (FAAN), National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA), and University of Detroit Mercy’s Business School Advisory Board. Travis is also on the Board of Directors and Executive Finance Committee of the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC), a Board of Directors member of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC), a member of the Billion Dollar Roundtable (BDR), a Board of Directors member of the Michigan Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board, and the President of the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s (NMSDC) Automotive Industry Group (AIG).
Travis began his career at Ford in 2010 as an intern in Corporate Purchasing. Within Purchasing, he held procurement responsibilities and managed the supply chain for several Electrical and Powertrain commodities before transitioning to Program Management where he completed numerous assignments on Fusion, Escape, Mustang, Explorer, Lincoln Continental, and Aviator. Travis also completed cross functional assignments in Finance and Autonomous Vehicles Product Development Program Management. Travis returned back to Purchasing in November of 2019, where he brings a wealth of knowledge as the Head of Supplier Diversity & Inclusion.
