Melissa Sheldon is the Director of Data and Workforce Projects for the Workforce Intelligence Network for Southeast Michigan (WIN). Melissa oversees a variety of projects, including the production of WIN’s labor market reports, specialized workforce profiles for emerging technologies, skill gap analyses, customized surveys, and more. Melissa serves as a workforce development system and talent-related data subject matter expert.

Melissa is deeply passionate about helping people connect with local employers that offer sustainable career and training opportunities. Prior to joining the WIN team, Melissa worked for South Central Michigan Works! (SCMW!), the workforce development agency that served employers and job seekers in Hillsdale, Jackson, and Lenawee counties. This agency is now known as Michigan Works! Southeast and serves Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, and Washtenaw counties. Melissa spent nearly eight years at SCMW! in various roles. She has experience working in many workforce programs as an employment advisor. Her previous roles included coordinating marketing, outreach, and communication efforts for the organization, disseminating labor market data in a useful manner, providing high-quality business services as a Business Services Professional (BSP), event coordination, computer class and workshop facilitation, public relations, and more. While working at SCMW!, Melissa was instrumental in securing a number of grants dealing with career development and skill attainment as well as establishing a responsive data support system within the SCMW! service area. Additionally, Melissa provided instruction and detailed support to workforce development, business service personnel, and economic development representatives to assist and support their activities in encouraging the growth and development of the region. She also taught Microsoft Office classes, basic computer skills classes, online job search classes, and career readiness workshops with both adult job seekers and high school students. Melissa was a critical cog in the growth and sustainability of numerous programs that were implemented to address the training and educational needs of the region as recognized and supported by the utilization of the data and research functions she put in place.

Melissa is a Michigan native and a two-time graduate of Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI. She holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
